Some of our families come from developing nations themselves. Because of the language barrier and unfamiliarity with the US culture, these parents have been reluctant participants in school engagement. The SeaVuria project has brought those families in by embracing the opportunity to learn from them directly. Parents have offered their students first-hand stories of their relationship with water issues. As an example, Nasif’s mom shared her personal story of dropping out of school after the fourth grade to help her mom transport water from a source 3 hours away. Making this trek didn’t leave time for school. Hodo’s father helped her with here Action Project to bring awareness of the issues of deforestation in Uganda.
We collected stories from our student about water issues in this video. Hear what they said: http://youtu.be/zvpBDNWuVUc
