Bios of Co-Founders:
Mary Margaret Welch, M.S. is the Seattle co-founder of the SEAVURIA project in the US. She is a celebrated science educator who has served as a classroom teacher, a curriculum leader, dean of academics, student advisor, professional development coach and school administrator. In her 25 years she has taught children from kindergarten through college. Ms. Welch has been recognized for her excellence in teaching with several awards including Puget Sound ESD Teacher of the Year, Mercer Island School District Teacher of the Year, Washington State Outstanding Biology Teacher, Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence, Pacific Science Center’s Excellence in Education / Outstanding Teacher, Phi Beta Kappa Pathfinder Award, Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership, and PTSA Golden Acorn Award.
Fr. Wilybard Lagho is the Kenya, co-founder of SEAVURIA and currently serves as Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa. While serving as education secretary in Mombasa, he pioneered a global partnership between schools in Mombasa-Kenya and Seattle-USA. He formerly worked as Rector of St. Augustine Senior Seminary after graduating with a Licentiate in Arabic and Islamic studies in Rome in 2008. Fr. Lagho is President of Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics, a non profit organization championing Christian-Muslim dialogue in the coastal region of Kenya. He was appointed consultant with the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue in Rome by Pope Benedict X1 in 2007. Lagho is a member of the task force established in 2008 to oversee the establishment of Pwani University in the coastal city of Mombasa.
