We at SeaVuria are thrilled, honored, and humbled to be selected by F5 as a recipient of the STEM Education Grant for Women and Girls of Color. This grant focuses on increasing access to STEM education for women and girls of color, an effort that deeply aligns with SeaVuria’s mission.
When I received the call from Carina Weyer, Senior Global Impact Manager at F5, I gathered a small team of five female leaders from SeaVuria—three from Kenya and two from the United States—to join a Zoom call for what we thought was a finalist interview. To our surprise, Carina and her team held up 'Congratulations' signs, letting us know that we were one of only 10 recipients out of over 900 applicants! Hearing feedback from the 35 evaluators worldwide, who noted our passion and commitment to empowering underrepresented students in Taita-Taveta, moved me to tears. Their recognition of our work filled me with pride and gratitude.
I am immensely proud of the Kenyan educators I have the privilege to work with, who are committed to adapting their teaching practices to meet the needs of their talented, promising young students. With strong STEM skills, these students will be empowered to drive sustainable change within their communities and beyond.
SeaVuria is committed to using these funds wisely, fostering a STEM-ready generation through teacher training, providing essential technology tools, and expanding students' exposure to STEM career pathways.
